The Boularderie Island Resource Centre (Boularderie CAP Site) was affiliated
with the District 5 Action Committee which was the lead organization in establishing
the Boularderie CAP Site in 1997. Through affiliation with the District 5 Action
Committee, the Boularderie Island Resource Centre is in association with the Victoria
County CAP Site Association (VCCAPS) and is partnered with the majority of projects
funded under VCCAPS. The District 5 Action Committee has since been disbanded, but the
Boularderie Island Resource Centre remains in association with VCCAPS. Located in Boularderie
Elementary School, the Boularderie Island Resource Centre has developed a strong relationship
with the school. The location has also resulted in a partnership with the RCMP Community
Policing Office, which is also located in the school.
Throughout the winter and summer BIRC provides a location for people to access high speed internet.
Clients can come in with their own laptop, or use one of the computers here. As part of the community
BIRC provides a variety of other computer services at
reasonable prices (see our
Prices page).
Computer Training Workshops are also available in group or one-on-one sessions (see our
Workshops
and
Play Com page
for more information). The site, in partnership with the Community Policing Office, Boularderie School,
and Historical Society is responsible for producing monthly editions of Swing Over the Mountain Newsletter.
The newsletter is distributed throughout the community and lets people know about local events and news.
Over the past 11 years BIRC has become a strong part of the Boularderie Community by supporting community
events. Throughout the summer, Youth Interns at the CAP Site help out at events such as the Ross Ferry
Marine Park Canada Day, the Big Wave Summer Festival, The Ross' Ferry Firemen's Pork Chop Barbeque, or
any other events they are requested at.
